hey all - just wanted to let you know that "super early bird" registration for the capitol 10k is going on through tomorrow. the fee is $18 for the Fun Run & $20 for the timed run. there is a small fee for registering online. here's the site: http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/cap10k/index.html
if you go to the FAQ's link, it says towards the bottom the different early bird dates & fees. i'm planning on registering today for the fun run - i debated doing the timed run and then decided that i can just time myself. :)

San Angelo runs
Is anyone planning to participate in any of the upcoming 5k's here in SA? There's the Shannon Pink Ribbon Run on 10.4, the Healthy Women on 10.11 and the Heart Walk/Run on 10.18? Just wondering.
I recently started this journey and am using the c25k program to train. I had asked myself the other day, what the heck is the difference between jogging and running? I decided it was how fast you are going; however, while listening to a running podcast today I heard the following quote and I like it. Dr. George Sheehan said, "The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank."
Yeah, I definitely like that.

hi. my name is sarah and i live in waco. i've known jenny since we were little. i'm excited to train for the capital 10k! it seems like a lofty goal to me, but i'm inspired by jenny and i believe that i'll be able to do it!
i started running right at the end of june. at that point i couldn't run a mile without stopping to walk 2 or 3 times. i've gradually built a little endurance and on august 30th my husband and i ran a 5k in 30:25!! we were thrilled. since then, i've gradually tried to add some distance to my runs... the breathing thing is still a little tough for me... working on not sounding like i'm dying while running. :)
as i've been consistent about running, i feel like i'm becoming addicted to it! i love the feeling of accomplishment after a run. i love when i push myself a little further than i think i can go. i love running up a hill and making it to the top! the reason that i started running was because it's a great way to stay in shape. both of my parents have run my whole life and i want to be healthy & fit like they are. having a goal like a 5k or 10k helps me stay motivated.

stuck with signs of movement.
hi -- this is sarah.
i've run twice since i joined this party, and, according to my original plans, i should've run five times by now.
today should be my 6th time.
oops. i'm a tad behind.
there is still hope for today (if landon would come home!), but isn't it funny how schedules don't really go the way you plan when you have a 5-week old and a 19-month old?
indeed.
i'm writing this post to say that i'm not going to let the hiccups in my schedule keep me from this goal. i always have best laid plans on paper when it comes to getting my body healthy, but the second something comes up, i abandon the ship altogether.
i'm determined not to let that happen this time.
i'm NOT going to beat myself up too much when a day goes by that i was "supposed" to run, but i didn't. i AM going to take every opportunity to get out there and do some training.
this may not be the conventional runner's way of training for a race.
it is this mom-of-two's way, however.
so, be encouraged if you are one who finds herself/himself in this situation. or if you haven't even started yet. just take it a day at a time, and run when you can. as jenny said, make it your goal to do something. anything.
if we can do that, we'll all cross this finish line.
i can't wait.

Hello-it's Brianne! I guess I will tell you a little about myself. I am married to a wonderful Godly man and have two beautiful children, 2 1/2 and one years old. I am a CPA (I may not have much time to run come spring:). I am running because I want to feel in shape again (like way back in high school) and it feels good to have a goal and want to work toward it. My biggest problem with this is going to be finding time to run, but I am going to do my best to fit it in. I am excited that so many people have agreed to do this! However, I don't really know any of you-so maybe sometime we could all meet to eat and then we could put faces with names! Good luck to all participants!

If you don't know where to begin training, go to the runnersworld link above and look in their training suggestions. They have a variety of programs for all levels of walkers/runners. And just lots of tips and information.
Third,
I am running in the Shannon Race on October 4th here in SA. It's a 5k or a 1 mile fun run. It might be a good short term goal for some of us. It's 10 bucks to do the 5k. Go to Roadlizards.org for more information.
Fourth,
I will work on the tee shirt design(with your input, of course). That will be coming much later. All the tees will be the same, but on my bib (the number you wear when you race), I'm going to write Dad's name or a verse for him or something. We could all do something like that. And, of course, you don't have to get a shirt...
Fifth,
And this is totally just my little opinion and I am about as far from a coach or anyone that should be giving such advice, but here it goes...for the first month, just get walking/running into your routine. Find a way to just enjoy hitting the road (or treadmill). Don't kill yourself trying to go too far or too fast. You'll burn out before you get started. So for the month of September, just do something....again, I repeat, that is just my opinion with no expertise or research behind it.
And that about covers it...

Motivation....
I love this scripture about the "race" of life, it has helped me push forward in times that i wanted to give up. I know it is talking about running a "spiritual" race, but it can be applied to almost anything in your life. If you ever feel like giving up, remember that you not only have a group of people who are enduring it with you, but you also have your Father who is carrying you. We can do this! I'm so excited!!!!!
Hey it's Amy everyone and if you haven't read why I'm running in March check out this post....I'm so excited! Not only am I excited about accomplishing something I've never done before, but I'm am absolutely thrilled I get to do it with such amazing people such as yourselves! What a wonderful time we will have together in Austin! It will be a weekend of victories that we can all share together! I can't think of anything better.

why i run
i always talk about getting in shape, so now it's time. with so many people in this with me, there's no reason why i shouldn't. so, i'm gonna do it. that's my reason. plus, i want to be beautiful for my hubby.

and as far as the t-shirt idea, i think we should have the "fought the good fight...." thing on the front and maybe the name of the person/people we're running in honor of on the back.

Rosepetal.
That's what dad called me sometimes. Grandude too. Rosepetal.
Why am I running? It started because of my dad. I wanted to run in the race he ran as a way to better understand him and to celebrate his life in this small way. Along my short journey, i've begun to learn a bit about myself too. I'm not a quitter. I'm a fighter. This race is a tangible goal. It's real. I can do this. And when I cross that finish line, I know Dad will be watching and cheering.
For me. For him. For the sweet taste of victory only I will fully understand, i run. And the running muscles aren't a bad side effect. : )
My goal: run every single step. And to beat dad's time. 56 minutes.
